NiMet predicts thunderstorms, cloudiness across Nigeria
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted thunderstorms and cloudiness across the country from Tuesday to Thursday.
In a weather outlook released on Monday in Abuja, NiMet predicted that Tuesday morning would see thunderstorms in parts of Borno, Adamawa, Taraba, Yobe, and Gombe states. Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected to affect Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi, Kano, Bauchi, Katsina, and Taraba states.
“Partly cloudy conditions are expected over the central regions during the morning hours, with prospects of afternoon/evening thunderstorms in parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, Kogi, Benue, Nasarawa, and Kwara states,” the agency reported.
The southern region is anticipated to experience cloudy skies in the morning, followed by afternoon/evening rains in Ondo, Edo, Enugu, Imo, Ebonyi, Abia, Ekiti, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Rivers, Bayelsa, and Lagos states.
For Wednesday, NiMet forecasts early morning thunderstorms in parts of Taraba, Adamawa, and Kebbi states. Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected in Taraba, Adamawa, Borno, Yobe, Jigawa, Kano, Katsina, Gombe, Bauchi, and Kaduna states.
“Early morning thunderstorms are anticipated in parts of Kwara and Kogi states, with thunderstorms later in the day in the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, and Nasarawa states. Morning rains are expected in Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Bayelsa states, with rains over most of the southern region later in the day,” NiMet detailed.
Thursday’s forecast includes morning thunderstorms in parts of Taraba state, with thunderstorms later in the day in Kebbi, Zamfara, Kaduna, Katsina, and Kano states. Early morning thunderstorms are also expected in the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, and Nasarawa states, with continued thunderstorms in these areas later in the day.
Cloudy skies are predicted over the southern region in the morning, with widespread rains anticipated later in the day.
NiMet cautioned that strong winds might precede thunderstorms, advising the public to take adequate precautions. Airline operators are also advised to obtain updated weather reports and forecasts from NiMet for effective planning of their operations.
