NiMet predicts thunderstorms, rain across Nigeria from Sunday to Tuesday

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted thunderstorms and rainy weather conditions across Nigeria from Sunday to Tuesday. According to NiMet’s weather forecast released yesterday in Abuja, several regions will experience significant weather changes starting today.

For Sunday, NiMet forecast morning thunderstorms over parts of Gombe, Bauchi, Borno, Adamawa, Jigawa, Taraba, and Kaduna states.

Later in the day, NiMet weather forecast thunderstorms in Zamfara, Kebbi, Kano, Borno, Adamawa, Bauchi, Katsina, Kaduna, Jigawa, Yobe, and Taraba states. Central states, including Plateau, Nasarawa, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Benue, and Niger, will see thunderstorms in the morning, with continued storm prospects in Kogi, Niger, Plateau, Benue, Nasarawa, and the FCT in the afternoon and evening.

Southern cities such as Imo, Ogun, Ondo, Delta, Edo, Cross River, Bayelsa, and Lagos are anticipated to have morning rains. Thunderstorms accompanied by rain are expected in Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Delta, Imo, Ebonyi, Cross River, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, and Lagos in the afternoon and evening.

On Monday, early morning thunderstorms are forecasted for Yobe, Borno, Adamawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Kano, Jigawa, Taraba, and Kaduna states. The afternoon and evening will likely bring thunderstorms to Taraba, Adamawa, Zamfara, Jigawa, Sokoto, Kebbi, Kano, Bauchi, and Kaduna states. The central regions, including Plateau, the FCT, and Nasarawa, will experience morning thunderstorms, with continued storms in Plateau, Niger, Nasarawa, and the FCT in the afternoon and evening. Ekiti, Imo, and Cross River states will see morning rains, with the possibility of afternoon and evening rain in Abia, Imo, Ekiti, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, and Rivers states.

For Tuesday, NiMet expects morning thunderstorms over Taraba, Adamawa, Katsina, Sokoto, Kebbi, Bauchi, and Kaduna states, with thunderstorms predicted over most parts of the northern region later in the day. The central region, including the FCT, Benue, Nasarawa, Plateau, and Niger states, will have morning thunderstorms, continuing through the afternoon and evening. The southern region will have cloudy skies with morning rain in Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River, and the potential for afternoon and evening rains across the entire region.

NiMet advises the public to take adequate precautions as strong winds may precede the rains in areas likely to experience thunderstorms. Airline operators are urged to obtain updated weather reports and forecasts from NiMet for effective planning in their operations.
