We want to make Nigerians Proud -- Ahmed Musa

Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa, has vowed to make Nigerians happy by securing a victory against Guinea-Bissau in their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier match on Friday.

The West Africans will look to further improve their chances of earning a spot at the 2023 AFCON finals when they take on the Djurtus in a match-day three encounter at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja.

Speaking at a press conference, Ahmed Musa said that the team has put their disappointment of missing out on a place at the 2022 FIFA World Cup behind them. The Super Eagles were held to a 1-1 draw by the Black Stars of Ghana in a similar encounter around the same time last year.

“We know what happened a year ago here against Ghana. That is behind us now. This is the AFCON qualifier and we want to make the fans happy,” Ahmed Musa said.

“We know the hardship that is currently going on in the country and football is the only thing that unites Nigerians. We want to make them happy.”

The Super Eagles top Group B with six points from two games, while Guinea-Bissau is in second position with four points from the same number of matches. The match is expected to be a closely contested one, as Guinea-Bissau would be looking to secure a vital away win that would boost their qualification chances.

The 28-year-old Musa, who currently plays for Turkish Super Lig club Sivasspor, will be expected to lead the Super Eagles attack and inspire his team to victory. The match is scheduled to kick off at 5 pm local time on Friday, and the Super Eagles will be hoping to come out on top and make Nigerians happy.
