“We are Victims” — Pep Guardiola
Manchester City’s manager, Pep Guardiola, has emphasized the unique pressure his team faces in the Premier League title race, suggesting that only City can be perceived as “failing” if they do not secure the championship due to higher standards imposed on them compared to their rivals.
Guardiola’s remarks come ahead of their upcoming fixture against Luton Town, with City seeking to halt a rare four-match winless streak, an unfamiliar situation for the seasoned coach.
Expressing his views on the reaction to their recent form, Guardiola conveyed a belief that the expectations placed on City exceed those of their competitors.
Addressing reporters, Guardiola stated,
“What they demand of us, they didn’t demand of our friends – at all. There is only one team that is going to ‘fail’ to win the Premier League, that is us. For the rest, [winning] it is a big success. Any team.”
Guardiola’s assertion highlighted the distinct scrutiny City faces due to their lofty ambitions, implying that while other top-tier clubs might not secure the title, it is considered within the realms of normalcy. However, for City, not clinching the championship would be perceived as a setback given the elevated expectations placed upon them.
