The event tagged conversation on ‘we survived Boko Haram’ featured stories based on true life accounts of individuals who recounted their experiences and testimony of survival to Nigerian journalist. Eromo Egbejule, who visited affected villages and towns ravaged by the insurgency.

The reading session had popular celebrity Waje; and Kemi ‘Lala’ Akindoju among others, read out excerpts from the captivating stories characterised with feelings of strength, hope and faith. I had tears glazed eyes when the story of ” The Boy From Bama” ( Dauda Abubakar) who had lost his father at the camp and as a result was left with the responsibility of catering for the needs of his mother, his pregnant stepmother and 14 of his 16 siblings at a teenage age of 18 wa read.
While responding to question at the event, Egbejule noted that: “ Though he made use of a Kanuri interpreter, one could feel their pain, and the words that describe their stories without understanding the language they communicated in. He also praised the efforts of some NGO catering for people in the internally displaced (IDP) camps, while also reiterating that the people in the north east are in dire need of support, not only materially but psychologically.
