WAEC Nigeria releases results for first-ever CB-WASSCE for private candidates 2024
The results of the inaugural Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (CB-WASSCE) for Private Candidates, 2024–First Series, have been made public by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), a Nigerian organisation.
For private candidates, this represents a major shift from the customary paper-based exams to computer-based exams.
The CB-WASSCE used a hybrid approach, according to a statement from WAEC, in which questions were shown on a computer and candidates responded in real time.
While essay and practical questions were answered in booklets given to the candidates, multiple-choice questions were answered on a computer.
The test was conducted from Wednesday, January 31, 2024, until Saturday, February 17, 2024.
3,424 candidates (42.07%) out of the 8,139 who took the test received credit and above in at least five subjects, with or without maths and/or English language.
Furthermore, 2,519 applicants (30.95%) received credit in five or more disciplines, including mathematics and English language.
From March 1 to March 16, 2024, three marking locations in Lagos, Enugu, and Kaduna hosted the coordination and grading of candidate scripts. A total of 459 examiners took part in the process.
8,362 individuals enrolled for the exam, a modest fall in candidature from 2023, but the administration made sure that all candidates—including those with special needs—were properly taken care of.
Twenty-one of the candidates had special needs, such as albinism, hearing loss, or visual impairment. The candidates were provided with suitable assistance during the assessment procedure.
