Victor Osimhen likely to reject Chelsea, awaits PSG decision

Victor Osimhen is reportedly set to turn down Chelsea’s offer and wait for a decision from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

Despite Chelsea’s persistent efforts to sign the Nigerian international throughout the summer, Napoli, the 2022/23 Serie A champions, insisted that his £113 million release clause be fully met.

The 25-year-old striker, one of Europe’s most sought-after talents, has been linked with several top clubs, including Chelsea, Arsenal, PSG, Manchester United, and Liverpool, following his standout performances with Napoli. Chelsea had hoped to secure Victor Osimhen as their leading striker for the 2024/25 season.

Although PSG initially remained silent on their interest in Osimhen after Kylian Mbappe’s departure to Real Madrid, the French club hesitated to meet Napoli’s steep asking price. Instead, they appeared content with their current forward options, Goncalo Ramos and Randal Kolo Muani.

However, PSG’s plans may change after Goncalo Ramos sustained a severe ankle sprain in their opening Ligue 1 match against Le Havre, sidelining him for approximately three months. This injury has reignited PSG’s search for a new striker, with Osimhen reportedly willing to wait until the last moment to secure his dream move to Paris.

This development doubts Chelsea’s potential triple-swap deal for the Nigerian star. Since joining Napoli in 2022, Victor Osimhen has scored 76 goals and provided 18 assists in 133 appearances across all competitions. However, he has been sidelined from the squad after reportedly expressing his desire to leave this summer.

Napoli began their 2024-25 Serie A campaign with a 0-0 draw against Hellas Verona at the Stadio Bentegodi on Sunday.
