Victor Boniface laments Libya's payback as Super Eagles stranded

Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface took to X on Monday, October 14, to express his frustration after being stranded in a Libyan airport for nearly 13 hours without food or basic necessities.

Boniface’s outcry has drawn attention to what many believe is retaliation for Libya’s chaotic experience in Nigeria during the first leg of the AFCON qualifiers.

Victor Boniface shared:

“Been at the airport for almost 13 hours no food no wifi no where to sleep. African we can do better @caf.”

The Libyan authorities’ treatment of the Nigerian team has raised questions about whether this was a deliberate act of payback for the logistical snags faced by the Libyan delegation in Nigeria.

The plane meant to take the Super Eagles to Benghazi was diverted, leaving the team stranded in Al Abraq airport. This comes after the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) faced criticism for mishandling Libya’s arrival in the first leg, a situation that left both sides pointing fingers.

As the Super Eagles prepare for their crucial return match against the Mediterranean Knights, the drama off the field could cast a long shadow over the game itself. Was this poor treatment a calculated move, or just another example of chaotic African football logistics gone wrong?
