How To Use Positive Affirmations Effectively

Published

on

The mind is a powerful thing and self-fulfilling entity. We all have an inner personal dialogue in our mind at all times, and we all talk to ourselves often. The language we use in these internal dialogues is so powerful, it often dictates our daily decisions and even our basic perceptions of ourselves.

Affirmations are assertive statements we make in our head with full confidence and firm belief in them. Something as simple as telling yourself that you “can do something” positively, and with confidence, can often lead you to actually accomplish it and this is tried and tested by many.

Therefore, learning how to make affirmations more effective, can greatly improve your goal setting and the motivation.

You can follow the tips given below to learn how to make affirmations more effective:

 Tip 1:

The first thing you need to do in order to learn how to create affirmations is to identify all your negative self-talk. To do this, you have to write down by hand, all the negative things you believe and all the negative things you say to yourself.

This list is going to includes everything you have always thought of as your bad quality, or even critical negative statements by others such as your parents, friends etc, which you have internalized and have been holding on to for a long time. Just outline all of them and then afterwards look for common themes that are repeating in all of them, and note them down.

Tip 2:

Create positive statements. The next step is to write out the positive versions of the negative stuff you have finished outlining in the above step. If you have trouble looking for positive alternatives, use a dictionary to help look for positive opposites.

Tip 3:

The last step is the executive step in learning how to make affirmations. This is the part where you take all the positive affirmations you have noted down in opposition to your negative ones, and repeating them to yourself as often as possible.

Also note that the following guidelines are key:

  1. Enter the “now”

Start your affirmation by entering the present tense. Take the condition you desire and declare it to be already true.

  1. Be positive

Shine a light on what you actually want. Remember, our subconscious mind skips the word not. So, delete this word from your affirmations. “I am not afraid of public speaking” gives us the message that you are afraid. Use, “I feel at ease as I speak in public.”

  1. Be concise

Shorter is better. Affirmations with fewer words are often easier to recall, especially in situations when you feel some stress. Rhyming makes your affirmations even more memorable.

  1. Include action

Whenever possible, affirm yourself as a person who takes action. Action engages the Law of Attraction, creating new results in our lives and opening us to further inspiration.

  1. Include a feeling word

Powerful affirmations include content and emotion. Content describes the specific outcome that you desire. Emotion gets to the heart of how you feel about that outcome. For a more potent affirmation, add both elements.
