The United States is set to send  1,500 troops to the border with Mexico.

The decision was made in response to a recent surge in illegal immigration and drug trafficking activity in the region.

According to a statement from the US Department of Defense, the troops will be deployed for a temporary period of up to six months and will be tasked with providing support to US Customs and Border Protection agents already stationed along the border.

The move has been met with mixed reactions, with some praising the decision as a necessary measure to protect US sovereignty, while others have criticized it as an unnecessary escalation of tensions between the US and its southern neighbor.

In a press conference, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin defended the decision, stating that the deployment of troops was necessary to address the growing security threats posed by criminal organizations operating along the border.

The Mexican government has not yet released an official statement regarding the deployment of US troops, but it is expected that the move will be a topic of discussion between officials from both countries in the coming days.
