US President Donald Trump Faces Consideration

Published

on

In recent discussions, there have been questions about whether former US President Donald Trump could be charged with a misdemeanour or felony for falsifying business records related to a payment made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels in 2016.

The exact charges have not yet been released, but a misdemeanour conviction would result in a fine, while a felony charge could lead to a maximum sentence of four years in prison.

While there is nothing illegal about Trump’s lawyer paying Daniels to keep quiet about an alleged affair she had with Trump in 2006, it is considered an election expenditure that must be reported in public financial disclosures to the federal election commission if you are running for president.

The failure to report it could be the basis of the charges against Trump.

US law professor Richard Painter has stated that New York is not a place for criminals to launder their money or falsify business records to cover up their crimes, which is likely to be the charge that Trump will face in this indictment.

It’s important to note that these are still ongoing discussions, and the full details of the charges and any potential trial have yet to be released.

Juan Merchan, the judge in Donald Trump’s case, authorised Manhattan district attorney Alvin Bragg to disclose the existence of the indictment yesterday.

The indictment is the formal written accusation that Trump has committed a crime – and it’s what was issued yesterday.

A copy of the approval for it to be released was obtained by CBS News, the BBC’s US media partner.
