The US Treasury Department has Sanctioned entities connected to Myanmar’s military for enabling the regime’s ongoing atrocities.

Three of the sanctioned entities operate in Myanmar’s defense sector, specifically in the importation, storage, and distribution of aviation fuel for the country’s armed forces.

Two individuals were also sanctioned, one of whom, Tun Min Latt, is described as a close associate of the military regime’s leader.

The couple’s firms were involved in importing military arms and equipment, including drones and aircraft parts, and had acted as an agent for China’s arms manufacturer Norinco, which was already sanctioned by the US.

The US sanctions of entities  follow similar moves by the UK and Canada, and the EU’s imposition of asset freezes and travel bans on 16 individuals and entities in Myanmar last month over “grave” violations of human rights in the country.
