UNN denies suspension of twerking student
University of Nigeria, Nsukka

The management of the University of Nigeria Nsukka(UNN) has denied suspending its student who danced half-clad in a viral video.

The video involved a first-year student of the university, who twerked half-clad in front of Akpabio Hostel trying to win a dancing competition.

The video attracted reactions on social media platforms, with many suggesting that the university had suspended the student.

In a statement on Wednesday, the university’s Public Relations Officer, Okwun Omeaku, said the institution’s preliminary findings revealed that she is a first-year UNN student in Department of Medical Laboratory Science.

The university said that it does not “condone acts of indecency and other morally reprehensible behaviour from students. Our degrees and certificates are awarded only to those who have been found worthy in character and in learning.

“Against the backdrop of mixed reactions on the video, it is important to clarify that the university has neither suspended the student nor pronounced any punishment on account of the incident.”

The statement added that further action will be taken after it receives report from a panel set up to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
