The Vice Chancellor of the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Prof. Nyaudoh Ndaeyo, has urged over 9,339 matriculating students of the university to be vigilant and security-conscious, in order to avoid any crisis that could harm their academic career in the institution.

The VC gave this charge while addressing the 29th Matriculation ceremony of the University on Saturday, stressing that only deserving students would graduate with degrees.

He advised the students to abide by the University’s matriculation oath and to steer clear of vices such as cultism and examination malpractices. Prof. Ndaeyo warned that crisis could lead to loss of property, time, and even life, which could prolong their stay in the institution. He added, “Academic work requires peace and order. Crisis leads to loss of property, time, and even life; crisis may keep you on the programme longer than necessary. So be mindful of what you do.”

The VC also reminded the students that the degrees of the University of Uyo were only awarded to deserving students who displayed both character and learning. He urged them to make good use of this opportunity, spend their time wisely, and make their academic pursuit their focus. He reiterated that the University had a zero-tolerance policy for fraudulent behavior and that any attempt to alter documents presented during admission or graduation could have criminal implications and be considered a breach of the matriculation oath.

The matriculation ceremony saw 9,339 students, consisting of 8,171 undergraduates and 1,168 postgraduate students, take the institution’s matriculation oath.

In conclusion, Prof. Ndaeyo’s message to the matriculating students of the University of Uyo emphasizes the importance of upholding academic excellence and exhibiting good character. He highlights the consequences of negative behavior, such as cultism and examination malpractices, and urges the students to be mindful of their actions. His advice to be security-conscious and avoid any crisis that could harm their academic careers demonstrates his commitment to providing a safe and conducive learning environment. Overall, his words serve as a call to action for students to be responsible and disciplined in their academic pursuits.
