The outgoing governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi, has apologized to the people of the state for any shortcomings during his administration, Topnaija reports.

Speaking to workers during the 2023 Workers’ Day celebrations, the governor acknowledged that he may have offended some people while carrying out his duties over the past eight years.

He pleaded with the people to forgive him and support the incoming governor, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, who he believes will continue where he left off.

Governor Umahi thanked the workers for their cooperation and support throughout his time in office.

He acknowledged that he may have stepped on some toes unintentionally, but assured the people that he acted in the best interest of the state.

He urged the people to forgive him for any mistakes he may have made and asked for their support for the incoming administration.

The governor-elect, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, is a former Speaker of the state House of Assembly and a long-standing member of the state’s political scene.

Governor Umahi believes that Nwifuru is well-suited to continue the work he started and urged the people to give him time to settle into his new role.

The governor’s apology comes at a time when many politicians are reflecting on their time in office and asking for forgiveness from the people.

Just a week earlier, President Muhammadu Buhari had also appealed to Nigerians for their forgiveness for not meeting their expectations.

As Governor Umahi prepares to leave office, he has also forgiven anyone who may have offended him during his time in office.

He expressed his gratitude to the people of Ebonyi State and wished them all the best for the future.
