Britain, law firm seek consent of Nnamdi Kanu to take over case

The British High Commission, on Wednesday, pledged to meet with the Nigerian Government over the rearrest of the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

A spokesperson of the British High Commission, Dean Hurlock, in a message made available to Top Naija said that the Commission is “in the process of seeking clarification” from the Federal Government over Kanu’s rearrest.

He said, “The British High Commission in Abuja is currently in the process of seeking clarification from the Nigerian government about the circumstances of the arrest.”

Hurlock further said that the UK “would expect any trial or legal proceedings to follow due process” as Kanu’s trial resumes.

In the message, Hurlock disclosed that the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office “stands ready to provide consular assistance.”

Nnamdi Kanu who is also a British citizen was apprehended and extradited to Nigeria on Sunday.

The leader of IPOB was extradited to continue his trial before Justice Binta Nyako-led Federal High Court sitting in Abuja. He is facing trial for committing treason.

Kanu’s brother, Emmanuel had declared that the IPOB leader was picked up in Kenya over the weekend.
