UEFA Were Harsh Pitting Barca Against Bayern—Xavi cries

Football they say is unpredictable, but then again, there are certain things that you just cannot expect, for instance, Barca beating Bayern Munich, especially when you consider the form they are in against top teams.

The La Liga side along with Premier League club, Arsenal has seen itself become victims to the German side on multiple occasions, firstly the 8-2 decimation in 2020/21 season with Lionel Messi still in the team.

Then there’s time loop that was last season that saw Barca paired up with Bayern Munich again but this time in the group stage. Like the current season, the Spanish side succumbed to a 3-0 back to back loss to send them to the Europa League.

Again, this season, UEFA saw to giving its audience a laugh again by pairing Barca and Bayern in the group stages, which Oliver Kahn found very humorous during the seeding.

Of course, UEFA weren’t entirely unreasonable even though Xavi thinks they were as Inter Milan and Viktoria Plzen were placed in the same group to at least give Barca a chance at surviving into the round of 16 rather than the Europa League round of 32.

But to Xavi Hernandez, the joke was in UEFA believing Inter Milan were a walk over they could still all 3 points from.

This to the Barcelona manager represented “the worst Champions League group in years,” that his club could be paired with considering they were not up to par with them.

On Tuesday, the Catalans face Viktoria Plzen in their last group match.

Bayern Munich and Internazionale have already qualified from Group C, but Barcelona stands no chance to with Inter Milan and Bayern making sure of it.

“We have nothing to play for, but this [Viktoria Plzen] is an important game. We want to end this competition well.

“We lack maturity. We have a lot of youngsters and we’ve had the worst Champions League group in years.

“We’ve had injuries. They’re not excuses, but that has hurt us. With respect to last season, we have a better squad and we have given a better image in Europe. But we haven’t been up to the task,” Xavi said ahead of the game.
