UEFA bans 7-countries for fan racism

Following the Copa America final and the Enzo Fernandez saga, racism stands the most talked about topic in football at the moment aside the summer transfer.

In an unprecedented move, UEFA has issued bans and hefty fines to seven national football federations following shocking incidents of racist and discriminatory behavior by fans at Euro 2024. The governing body’s Control, Ethics, and Disciplinary Body (CEDB) confirmed the sanctions on Wednesday, impacting a total of 17 matches marred by offensive chanting and racism.

Among the hardest hit is Croatia, fined £41,978 and barred from selling tickets to away fans for their next UEFA competition match. This severe punishment follows repeated racist behavior from their supporters in all three Group B fixtures.

Romania faces a similar fate, with a £33,583 fine and a ban on selling away tickets for their next UEFA match after multiple incidents of fan misconduct across three games. Albania has also been charged, receiving a £25,183 fine and a suspended one-match away ticket ban for racist behavior during group-stage clashes against Croatia and Spain.

Hungary, Slovenia, and Serbia are not spared either, each receiving identical penalties for their fans’ discriminatory actions.
