Aisha Yesufu, a prominent social critic and human rights activist, raised concerns regarding the lifting of the visa ban on Nigerians by the United Arab Emirates (UAE), alleging that President Bola Tinubu’s administration intends to artificially present the lifting of the ban until it is achieved.
This assertion follows recent reports suggesting that the UAE had indeed lifted the visa ban on Nigerians. However, Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the President, clarified that the ban has not been lifted, contrary to the earlier reports attributed to him.
Taking to her social media platform on Wednesday, Yesufu expressed skepticism, accusing the Tinubu administration of attempting to deceive the public. “Tinubu’s illegitimate government wants to fake it until they make it!,” she asserted.
The UAE had initially imposed the visa ban on Nigerians and citizens from 19 other African countries in October 2022, prohibiting their entry into its borders.
The country issued a directive to travel agents and trade partners to reject all visa applications from the affected nations.
