U.S Senate Democrats make last minute push to block Trump

As the clock ticks toward a Republican-controlled Senate, Democratic leaders are scrambling to confirm as many of President Joe Biden’s judicial nominees as possible to prevent vacancies that could be filled by Donald Trump if he retakes the White House.

With only weeks left until Republicans assume Senate control on January 3, Senate Democrats are accelerating efforts, starting with former prosecutor April Perry, Biden’s nominee for U.S. district court in Illinois.

Perry is one of 31 nominees still awaiting confirmation, 17 of whom have already cleared committee review.

The high-stakes effort to reshape the judiciary has sparked backlash from Trump and his allies. On social media, Trump called for an immediate halt to Biden’s judicial confirmations, claiming Democrats are “ramming through their Judges.”

Tech billionaire and Trump supporter Elon Musk chimed in, branding Biden’s nominees as “activists” and “bad for the country.” Meanwhile, Mike Davis from the conservative Article III Project urged Senate Republicans to oppose any further appointments until January.

Biden’s administration has so far confirmed 213 federal judges, including Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson. The nominees largely represent a diverse, liberal slate, with around two-thirds being women and racial m!norities.

In contrast, Trump’s judicial impact was historically significant, placing 234 judges, including three conservative Supreme Court justices, solidifying a 6-3 majority on the court.

With Trump’s supporters pushing back hard, and Senate Democrats racing to approve Biden’s nominees, the final days of the Democratic majority could see an unprecedented judicial showdown.
