U-20 AFCON: Uganda Hyped Up For Flying Eagles Clash
Uganda captain Isma Mugulusi has stated that his team is fired up for their quarterfinal clash against the Flying Eagles of Nigeria at the U-20 AFCON. The match is set to take place on Thursday at the Suez Canal Stadium in Ismailia, Egypt.
The Uganda U-20 team, known as the Hippos, finished top of Group A and is unbeaten so far in the competition. The Flying Eagles of Nigeria, on the other hand, lost their opening game to Senegal but have improved since then.
Jackson Mayanja, the Hippos coach, is well aware of the threat posed by Nigeria and has stated that he and his team are ready to knock Ladan Bosso’s men out of the competition. Mugulusi echoed the coach’s sentiments and stated that the team is mentally prepared for the quarterfinal clash.
“We are ready, everyone is in shape, we’re mentally good,” the striker said during a press conference on Wednesday. “We’ve tried to put what the coach wants in practice. I think we can overcome Nigeria in the quarter-finals.”
The Hippos are looking to make it past the quarterfinals of the competition for the first time in their history. They will be relying on their impressive defensive record, having conceded just one goal in the group stages. The Flying Eagles, on the other hand, will be looking to their attacking prowess, with the likes of Wisdom Ubani and Ibrahim Said leading the line.
The winner of the quarterfinal clash will progress to the semifinals of the U-20 AFCON, with a chance to claim the trophy and secure a spot in the U-20 World Cup later this year.
