Two suspects arrested over alleged rape of hearing impaired teenager in Nasarawa

Nasarawa State Police have arrested two suspected over alleged rape of hearing impaired 15-year-old girl.

The suspected rapists we’re said to have taken advantage of the victim’s defect to commit the act, as confirmed by report.

The Nasarawa State Police PRO, DSP Ramhan Nansel confirmed the arrest in a statement.

He explained that a rape complaint was lodged at the Obi division that the suspects, 24-year-old Aminu Hashimu, and 18-year-old Lukman Dogara, both from Owolosho Street, Obi Local Government Area, Nasarawa State, criminally conspired and raped a teenager of 15 years on March 2, 2023.

According to the statement, “Upon receipt of the report, investigation and manhunt were launched by police operatives attached to Obi division for the suspects.”

Nansel assured that preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects lured the victim who had hearing impairment to their residence on Okpe Street, Obi, and had unlawful carnal knowledge of her.

The PPRO further explained that after the crime, the victim was immediately taken to a hospital for medical examination.

Maiyaki Baba, the state Commissioner of Police, according to the statement, had ordered a comprehensive investigation into the case.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court in Ogba, Lagos State, remanded a teenager, Tosin Oloyede, over rape of a five-year-old girl during election day.

Mrs. B. O. Osusanmi, Magistrate, remanded the accused in the Special Correctional Institution for Boys in Oregun seeking legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution.

According to the prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police Akeem Raji, the teenager raped the minor on February 25, 2023, and the 16-year-old suspect reportedly violated his neighbor’s daughter about 2 p.m. in the state’s Ikorodu district.

“Oloyede defiled the victim by having sexual intercourse with her,” Raji said.

According to the prosecutor, the offense committed violated Section 27 and is punishable under Section 210 (8) of the Lagos State Child Rights Law of 2015.

The defendant did not enter a plea since he was brought to court on a remand application.
