The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority confirmed the death of two of the victims involved in a early morning train-BRT crash that occured on Thursday morning.

The Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Adebayo Taofiq, said  that the bus was fully loaded with members of staff of the state government, adding that the driver wasn’t patient enough.

He said, “One cannot easily calculate the number of staff members in the bus; it is the same as BRT, some were standing because it is a fully-loaded bus. The driver was supposed to have waited for the train because he still had time. It wasn’t 8 am yet, so why the rush?

“Two people have died and the train dragged the bus to an extent while some people were also fast to have jumped out of the bus while some were trapped. We can say 15 rescued for now. We can’t give the exact number but two people have died.”

The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has sympathised with victims of the train accident that occurred on Thursday morning.

According to further report, two  people were confirmed dead while an unspecified number of people were injured after a passenger train crushed a Lagos State Government staff bus on its way from Ikotun enroute Alausa, the state secretariat, at the PWD area of the state.

The accident happened around past 7am on Thursday.

In a message on his Twitter account, Sanwo-Olu prayed for families of the victims and appreciated the efforts of the rescue team.

“I am deeply saddened by the news of the train/bus accident . The vehicle was conveying staff of the Lagos state Government, our staff who serve the state in different capacities. Let’s say a prayer for the families and a prayer of mercy and protection for our state.

My thoughts are with the victims and their families during this difficult time. A big thank you to well- meaning Lagosians who immediately joined in rescue efforts. Our first responders and emergency services are on the ground and we will share more information shortly,” he tweeted
