WHILE many people are striving to begin the New Year on a good note, two underaged boys of the same parents thought otherwise by breaking into a mechanic workshop in an attempt to steal motor spare parts, yesterday.

However, luck ran out on them when the owner of the mechanic workshop located at Kwata Amikwo Awka, the Anambra State Capital, Mr PaulNwagulu, caught one of them while the other narrowly escaped the scene.

Tribune Online learnt that the duo has made several attempts at the workshop without success. The sixteen-year-old boy, names withheld, who was caught in the act is a JSS 2 student of a very popular secondary school in Awka, said his reason for wanting to steal the motor spare parts was to use the proceeds of the crime to repair his spoilt phone.

He also said that the other thief, who is now at large, is his biological younger brother, he confessed. A resident of the area, Mrs Vivian Maduka, noted that the thieves were products of a broken home whose parents are no longer living together.

Another resident of the area who refused to be identified, while empathizing with the mother of the culprits, stressed that the woman really needs to resort to prayers in order to amend the characters of her children which have been broken.

The owner of the mechanic workshop, Mr. Nwagulu together with his security guard as well as other male residents of the area, gave the thief the beating of his life and later handed him over to his mother who came to plead on his behalf, with a stern warning that such act should not repeat itself again.
