Two arraigned for burglary, stealing in Ekiti

Police operatives in Ekiti State have arraigned two men, Ojo Sunday, 38, and Bello Lawal, 43, before an Ado Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for alleged burglary and stealing.

 

The prosecutor, Inspector Caleb Leramo, told the court on Friday that the defendants committed the offences on July 13, 2020, around 10.30pm in Ado Ekiti.

Leramo alleged that the defendants conspired among themselves and burgled the apartment of the complainant, one Mr Atanda Bukola.

The prosecutor also alleged that the defendants stole the motorcycle of the complainant.

He said the offences contravened sections 516, 411 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

The prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendants in a correctional centre pending legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Counsel for the second defendant, Mr Chris Omokhafe, told the court that his client did not burgle the complainant’s apartment.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Abdulhamid Lawal, went through the police statement and admitted the second defendant to bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

 

Lawal, however, ordered that the first defendant be remanded in a correctional centre pending the issuance of legal advice.

He adjourned the case till October 26, 2020, for mention.
