Twitter, the popular microblogging platform, recently made a significant change to the account of Nigeria’s former Vice-President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, by removing the official verification tag that had previously adorned his profile.

The verification tag, generally earmarked for government officials, provides a level of authority and authenticity to Twitter accounts. Notably, at the time of reporting, Osinbajo’s tag had been withdrawn, whilst that of the former President Muhammadu Buhari, remained intact.

In the world of Twitter, verification provides an air of prestige and credibility to users, making it quite a subject of interest when such status is revoked. Presently, there has been no official comment from Twitter, leaving questions surrounding the reason for the removal of the former vice-president’s verification tag unanswered.

The change on the social media platform transpired as Prof. Osinbajo and his principal, Muhammadu Buhari, passed the leadership baton to the administration of Bola Tinubu on May 29, 2023. As the former leaders make their transition, it appears their Twitter statuses are also undergoing changes. Amidst this development, Nigerians eagerly await Twitter’s response to inquiries about the changes made to the former vice-president’s profile.
