Twitter ban: Anyone arrested will wind up being celebrated – Fayose

Ex-governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has stated that anyone arrested for using Virtual Private Network (VPN) to access Twitter in Nigeria will end up being celebrated.

The Federal Government last week suspended Twitter operations in Nigeria, citing what it depicted as “the persistent use of the platform for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence.”

A directive was instantly issued to telecommunications companies via the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to make the suspension effective.

Nevertheless, some Nigerians still had access to Twitter through the utilisation of VPNs.

This prompted the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, to order the Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation to commence instant prosecution of violators of the ban.

Responding, Fayose took to the social media platform, stating, “AGF Malami, I just tweeted. No shaking!”

In another post, Fayose wrote, “Good morning Nigerians. Like Buhari, no President elected by Nigerians can be a law unto himself. It is our right to use Twitter and other social media platforms and we’ll keep tweeting. I’m tweeting and so are many other Nigerians.

“Anyone they arrest will only end up being celebrated. No one should be moved by empty threats of arrest. Certainly, what has a beginning must have an end. This dictatorial govt came, and shall definitely go. No shaking! Good days ahead.”
