Trent not to Blame, Alisson should have saved it—Spurs goalie

Trent not to blame for the Fulham goal, former Tottenham goalkeeper suggests amidst Trent Alexander Arnold criticism.

Liverpool’s premier league season opener against Fulham was one that took many by storm considering how the whole game turned out.

The tie brought on a lot of analysis and criticisms, specifically for Fulham’s first goal of the game that was headed in by Aleksandar Mitrovic.

There are a lot of narratives that pin the blame on Liverpool full back, Trent Alexander Arnold but for former Tottenham Hotspur’s goalkeeper, Robinson, he doesn’t see a fault with the England international.

Instead, he pins the fault on the Liverpool goalkeeper for his choice of positioning at that critical point in the game.

The former England shot stopper rather stays adamant that Alisson Becker on a good day stood a chance to stop the header.

The game was quite the awkward one that saw Fulham’s Mitrovic net twice against Liverpool at Craven Cottage in the 2-2 draw.

Speaking to Football insider on the match day analysis, Robinson said:

“Never mind Trent, it was Alisson’s fault. He should have saved it. He ducked under the ball.

“I’ve watched it a number of times. He set himself under the back post and he set himself small. Alisson is a big guy. There should have been very little space between himself and the cross bar. The ball went in between his head and the bar.

“If you watch his reaction, he waves at the ball. A goalkeeper of his ability should save it.

“Trent got caught square. Yes, Trent got caught square. He should have been more aware of what is around him because that allowed Mitrovic to get the better of him.” Robinson added.

Of course, the goal might have been saved by Alisson but on further view, it can be seen there was quite a lot more Trent Alexander Arnold could have done in such positions.

There can be a claim that the former Spurs man settles on the English bias to cover Alexander Arnold as he considers Trent not to blame for the goal, forgetting it’s a full back’s job to provide a lot of cover for the goalie to begin with.
