Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold has set the bar high for himself and its one Liverpool fans have to worry about.
With rumors linking the Scouser to Real Madrid upon the expiry of his contract with the Reds, the Right-Back has admitted his eye on the coveted Ballon d’Or prize.
According to Trent Alexander-Arnold, his goal is to rewrite football history as the first Right-Back to win the Ballon d’Or.
Known for his playmaking prowess from the backline, the 25-year-old, believes he was what it takes to earn the title that no full-back has ever achieved.
In an interview via Fabrizio Romano, Alexander-Arnold shared,
“My main target? I’d say to win a Ballon d’Or. Because I believe I can. I want to be the first full-back to ever do it.”
This bold goal sets him apart from his predecessors, as no full-back has lifted the Ballon d’Or, with defenders in general rarely claiming the honor. The last to do so was Italian center-back Fabio Cannavaro in 2006, after leading Italy to a World Cup victory.
Alexander-Arnold’s comments come ahead of Liverpool’s clash with Arsenal, a key fixture as the Reds look to keep pace in the Premier League.
With standout players like Vinicius Junior, Jude Bellingham, and Kylian Mbappe competing for this year’s award, the Liverpool star has his work cut out.
However, if Trent Alexander-Arnold can continue to redefine the full-back role, his Ballon d’Or dream might just become reality, hence the valid fear by Liverpool fans that a move to Real Madrid is on the cards.
