Transfer: Liverpool draw first blood over Man United
Liverpool have made their first official transfer move under new manager Arne Slot, targeting Lille’s highly-rated centre-back Leny Yoro, according to reports.
Slot, who took over from Jurgen Klopp on June 1, has wasted no time in identifying key reinforcements as he prepares for his inaugural season at Anfield.
The 18-year-old Yoro, who has drawn interest from several top European clubs including Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Paris Saint-Germain, is seen as one of the most promising defensive talents in world football.
Last season, he made 32 appearances for Lille and has become a pivotal figure in the team’s defense.
Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo reported that Liverpool have submitted a bid of €50 million for Yoro, which was rejected by Lille.
The French club is holding out for a €60 million valuation, a price point that has so far stalled negotiations with Real Madrid, the player’s preferred destination.
Journalist Gianluca Di Marzio noted Liverpool’s aggressive entry into the race for Yoro, emphasizing the club’s determination to secure his signature.
Fabrizio Romano confirmed on his YouTube channel that Liverpool’s interest is genuine and noted that the club is closely monitoring the situation, ready to act if Real Madrid does not finalize a deal.
Yoro’s impressive performances have also earned him a spot in France’s Olympics squad, selected by head coach Thierry Henry, further highlighting his rapid rise and significant potential.
Slot’s early activity in the transfer market, particularly his focus on shoring up the defense, demonstrates his strategic approach as he aims to strengthen Liverpool’s squad for the upcoming season.
