According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, an agreement between Lille and Manchester United for an initial €62 million (£52 million) fee was reached last week. Yoro is reportedly on his way to the UK to undergo a medical and finalize personal terms with the Premier League giants.
Despite initially favoring a move to Real Madrid, the Spanish side was unwilling to match the fee that United and Lille settled on. This has paved the way for Manchester United to swoop in and secure the services of the highly sought-after defender.
Yoro’s impending arrival at Old Trafford has sparked excitement among United fans, who are eager to see the young star bolster their defensive ranks. The teenager’s impressive statistics, including completing 1,727 passes in Ligue 1 last season—the most by a teenager across Europe’s top five leagues—highlight his potential to make a significant impact in the Premier League.
While Yoro’s original preference was a transfer to Los Blancos, it seems the allure of playing under Erik ten Hag and the promise of a pivotal role at Manchester United have swayed his decision. However, there is still some work to be done before the move is officially completed.
United has also maintained interest in Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt and Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite. However, any additional arrivals may depend on the futures of current defenders Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire, whose positions at the club remain uncertain.
The Red Devils recently kicked off their summer transfer activity with the signing of Joshua Zirkee for around £36.5 million, and Yoro’s potential arrival signifies their intent to strengthen the squad significantly ahead of the new season.
