Transfer Latest: Liverpool face major worry with transfer target

Liverpool Football Club are reportedly interested in signing Sporting Lisbon’s Manuel Ugarte on transfer this summer, but could face a potential obstacle due to the player’s representation by a “superagent.”

The 22-year-old Uruguayan midfielder has been attracting interest from the Premier League club, with reports claiming that Liverpool scouts were in attendance to watch him play in Sporting’s recent 2-1 win over Famalicao in the Primeira Liga.

Ugarte’s playing style has impressed Liverpool scouts, with the player leading the division in tackles per game according to WhoScored, averaging 3.9 per match.

However, the player has also picked up 10 yellow cards and a red card in his 29 appearances this season, which could be a concern for Liverpool if they pursue a transfer.

Despite this, Portuguese outlet O Jogo has reported that a move to Liverpool for Ugarte is “practically inevitable.” However, it has emerged that the player’s representation could cause issues for the club.

According to the Liverpool Echo, Ugarte is connected to Jorge Mendes, a renowned football “superagent” who previously represented Cristiano Ronaldo and currently represents Liverpool stars Darwin Nunez, Fabinho and Diogo Jota through his founded agency, Gestifute.

The Echo has reported that Manuel Ugarte is actually represented by Jorge Chijane, who has a partnership with Mendes. Details of their relationship are currently scarce, which could present challenges for Liverpool in comparison to previous deals agreed with Mendes.

Spanish outlet Sport reported that Mendes offered Ugarte to Barcelona back in March as a potential replacement for Sergio Busquets if the veteran Spanish midfielder departed Camp Nou at the end of the season.

If Liverpool does make a move for their transfer target, they will be hoping to secure the player’s signature ahead of Barcelona and navigate any potential agent-related obstacles.
