Transfer: Chelsea ‘make offer for Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen’

Chelsea has reportedly tabled an offer for Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen, as Frank Lampard looks to immediately address his crisis between the sticks.

Reports in Spain claim the Blues have already put an undisclosed offer into the Catalan club, in hope of concluding swift business.

But any move will face fierce competition from Bayern Munich, according to Cadena Ser, who says the Germans are desperate to bring Ter Stegen back to his homeland as a long term replacement for Manuel Neuer.

Kepa Arrizabalaga has endured an error-strewn season and lost all trust at Stamford Bridge

Other ‘major European clubs’ are also said to be interested, and monitoring the situation at the Nou Camp with Ter Stegen’s contract quickly running out.

The 28-year-old is yet to reach an agreement with Barca regarding an extension of his deal, though is understood to wish to remain in Spain where his family has settled.

Now entering his peak and rated among the best goalkeepers in world football, Ter Stegen’s current deal will expire in the summer of 2022, after which he is able to leave Barca on a free transfer.

Boss Frank Lampard dropped Kepa for the crucial season-ending match against Wolves

Chelsea is believed to be ready to cut their losses with Kepa Arrizabalaga, despite making him the most expensive goalkeeper in football history in August 2018.

The Blues paid £72million to take the Spanish stopper from Athletic Bilbao, eclipsing the £67m rivals Liverpool had paid for Alisson Becker just a month prior.

Kepa signed a huge seven-year deal at Stamford Bridge, but now fears he has played his final game for the club.

An error-strewn season has seen manager Lampard lose faith, with veteran stopper Willy Caballero selected for Chelsea’s crucial season-ending clash with Wolves.

Victory in that match ensured vital Champions League qualification for the Blues, who now look ahead to Saturday’s FA Cup final against Arsenal.

Lampard is desperate to conclude his first season as Chelsea boss with silverware and looks set to place his trust in Caballero once again.

The Blues are believed to be willing to listen to offers for Kepa this summer, with an increased likelihood that the 25-year-old could be involved in a swap deal for another goalkeeper.
