Trailer driver falls off Lagos-Ibadan Expressway bridge in lone accident

An unidentified trailer driver has supposedly suffered a terrible road accident on the street of Lagos State.

TopNaija reports that the driver fell off the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway bridge, situated between Berger, Lagos State, and Isheri, Ogun State.

A police officer had mentioned on Saturday that a trailer had crashed into the bridge, leaving the front part of the trailer hanging off the edge of the bridge.

According to the police officer who anonymously spoke to The PUNCH correspondent, the accident occurred early Saturday morning.

He however noted that the cause of the accident as of the time of filing this report had yet to be identified.

The PUNCH reporter who visited the accident site saw that members of the Nigerian Police Force and the Federal Road Safety Corps were on the scene to ensure traffic movement and the safety of people and property.

According to the police officer who claimed to have just arrived on the site, early investigations suggested that the driver had fallen over the bridge as a consequence of the collision.

He said, “We got here about 10 minutes ago (8:00 am) and we heard that the driver fell off the bridge. That is the information we have at hand now.

“We are yet to ascertain what caused the accident, we have no information on the whereabouts of the driver, and neither can we ascertain yet if there were casualties,” he added.

However, efforts to speak to eyewitnesses proved abortive as nobody was willing to speak on the cause of the accident, the whereabouts of the driver and if there were casualties.

On January 2, two people died and ten others were wounded in two separate incidents on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on New Year’s Day.

The lone collision happened about 8 a.m. near Isara Remo, the capital of Remo North Local Government Area in Ogun State, on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, killing two people and injuring three others.

The wounded victims were brought to Victory Hospital Ogere for medical treatment, while the bodies were placed to the Isara General Hospital morgue.
