Tragic accident in Owerri claims 7-lives

A tragic accident in Owerri, the Imo State capital, has left seven people feared dead after a trailer lost control and crushed three minibusses on Saturday evening. The incident occurred around 7 pm near the Imo State University junction.

According to reports by PUNCH Online, the truck was driving against traffic when the driver lost control, hitting approximately 20 people. The heavy-duty vehicle then collided with three minibusses, each carrying nine passengers, including the drivers.

Several victims were rushed to the Federal University of Technology Hospital Owerri (FUTHO) for treatment, while the bodies of seven deceased individuals were taken to the morgue.

An eyewitness, identified as Emeka, recounted that the minibusses were hit in quick succession due to their close proximity to each other. The chaos at the scene led to significant gridlock on Okigwe Road as people flocked to the site of the accident and blocked a major part of the road.

Concerned relatives gathered at FUTHO in search of their loved ones, adding to the commotion.

The Police are yet to give a statement or an account of the accident.
