TopNaija’s Premier League Predictions for the Weekend
The Premier League weekend returns, and the 2023/24 season begins tonight with the season opener between Manchester City and newly promoted Burnley, with a chance of a reunion presented to Vincent Kompany and Pep Guardiola.
The Premier League champions will be looking to retain their title in the very first week of the league season, while Burnley and Vincent Kompany will be looking to gain its first few points to avoid any battles with relegation.
The likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United acclaimed top six sides will be looking to provide a challenge for the premier league champions to thwart whatever hopes they hold of a 4th title in consecutive seasons.
However, they themselves have a battle on their hands in their oppositions, hence we will look at the fixtures for every team competing in the first weekend to see what chance they hold in the season opener for the 2023/24 season.
Manchester City kickoff hostilities away from home at the Turf Moor to Burnley at 8 pm Friday night. TopNaija predicts a close affair that tests Pep Guardiola’s team’s resolve. We predict a 0-2 tight contest in Burnley vs. Manchester City in favor of the Cityzens.
It is also possible for Burnley to come up with the shocker of a 1-1 draw however. A key thing worthy of note is that City often start the season not on 100 percent form.
On Saturday 12th August, sees a host of clubs duke it out, with Arsenal starting the day’s hostilities with a 12:30 pm kickoff time at home to Nottingham Forest.
Nottingham Forest will want to avoid the drop as early as they can, and Arsenal hopeful of beginning a title charge like they did last season.
We predict a 4-0 contest in favor of the Gunners in Arsenal vs. Nottingham Forest. The key factor is that Arsenal will be home at the Emirates and their new signings will want to kick the season in high spirits in front of its home fans.
On Sunday 13th August, Brentford vs. Tottenham Hotspur, will see the first London derby of the season take shape, and the first that might exclude Spurs’ main man, Harry Kane from the fixture.
Brentford aren’t a side to walk on and it might end up as Tottenham’s new manager’s first test in the premier league. We predict a 3-1 defeat for Spurs.
