TopNaija’s Premier League Predictions For The Weekend
The Premier League weekend returns to our screens once more, and yet again, it promises an exciting dose of fast paced, intensity fueled football. The question over who wins the weekend and who suffers the heavier loss returns in the minds of fans.
Last weekend had Manchester City being the biggest winner of the premier league weekend, not because they were able to overcome their opponents, Southampton, but due to the fact there title rivals, Arsenal dropped two vital points at Anfield on the same weekend.
Now, the Cityzens head into this weekend with one thing in mind, do the job and hope this season is a repeat of prior seasons where they challenged for the title and came from behind to win it eventually. It’s Manchester City of course, it’s what they are known for.
Arsenal on the other hand, wouldn’t be willing to give up just yet. They went to Anfield and very nearly came out with something, and on a normal day, had the name of the Stadium not being Anfield, they would have raided Liverpool and stole from them precious points.
The relegation battle is another war in the premier league table. Despite it being Match day 31, the premier league standing doesn’t indicate who is safe from the drop or who has automatically been relegated to the Championship.
It becomes scary when one thinks there is a possibility for Chelsea to even fall to the drop zone and join the Championship next season should they not get their acts together under Frank Lampard.
Here goes our prediction for the premier league weekend.
Saturday 15th April sees a clash between Villa and Newcastle United.
Aston Villa12:30Newcastle United, this game will go a long way to test Unai Emery’s side against a reformed Newcastle United looking to bid for a top 4 place in the table. Who comes out on top?
Our prediction will go in favor of a 2-2 draw, with Aston Villa ruining things for Newcastle United on the weekend at lunch time kick-off.
Chelsea15:00Brighton and Hove Albion, this fixture is a very dreaded one for Chelsea fans, and with Frank Lampard losing back to back games on his return to the club, Chelsea will desperately be in search of a win no matter the cost.
Brighton will prove a force, but we predict they will scare the Blues with an early lead but Chelsea will come out with a scrappy 2-1 victory or at least a 1-1 draw to give hope to the Stamford Bridge crowd.
Everton15:00Fulham, Sean Dyche will do everything to escape the drop zone no matter the cost, and against Fulham that will be missing Mitrovic, it is a possibility for the Toffees to steal something from this game.
A 2-0 victory for Sean Dyche will go a long way to give Everton hope.
Southampton15:00Crystal Palace, Palace under Roy Hodgson have become something else, but Southampton last weekend suffered a 1-4 loss at home to Manchester City, and will be looking to avoid that fate this weekend again.
The Saints may force in a 0-0 score line on the afternoon, and will bring hope in a battle in front of them.
Tottenham Hotspur15:00Bournemouth, this is a game that Spurs are tipped to win and come out of it unscathed, but Bournemouth have other plans, so we can predict a 1-2 shock result in favor of AFC Bournemouth to bring Tottenham down to the earth.
Wolverhampton Wanderers15:00Brentford, Wolves stole 3 points from Frank Lampard last weekend, and will be eager to repeat same feat this weekend, but Brentford have a lot of goals this season in reaching for a European spot.
Brentford could force out a 1-3 score line against a Wolverhampton Wanderers who aren’t really in top form this season.
Manchester City17:30Leicester City, this is for sure a game Manchester City will not want to drop points, considering the challenge facing them. Leicester City are poor in form, and Manchester City are at home, the Etihad will force out a win for the Cityzens in a meek 2-0 score line according to our prediction.
Sunday 16th April
West Ham United14:00Arsenal, this is a London derby but the Gunners have an edge here considering West Ham are very much not what they were last season, and whilst they were in peak form last season, Arsenal still did a number on them.
We expect a similar fate with a 0-3 score line for Mikel Arteta.
Nottingham Forest16:30Manchester United, here is what is interesting, Nottingham Forest are strong at home. They prove a challenge going against them at their home ground.
Manchester United will want to keep up in the top 4 race, but who comes out a victor? We predict a shock 1-0 defeat for the Red Devils following a 2-2 draw against Sevilla in the Europa League.
Monday 17th April
Leeds United20:00Liverpool, Liverpool will want to avenge their defeat at Anfield to Leeds, with Leeds being the only team to wound the Reds at their Home turf this season.
Aside revenge, they desperately need 3 points going forward. We predict a 0-3 victory for the Merseyside Reds this weekend.
