Atiku Lauds Supreme Court judgement on Local Governments autonomy

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has commended the Supreme Court’s judgement granting fiscal autonomy to local government councils in Nigeria, Topnaija.ng reports.

Reacting to the development via his official X page , Atiku described the ruling as a “win for the people of Nigeria” and a “step in the right direction” for national development. Read more here.

Police investigate allegations of fraud, OBT against Grace Nation Church GO, Chris Okafor

The Lagos State Police command have commenced investigation into the allegations of fraud and obtaining by false pretence made by a businessman and former member of the Grace Nation Church International, Lagos, Michael Omolayo Ibukun against the founder and General Overseer of the church, Dr Chris Okafor.

This followed a petition to the Commissioner of Police by Omolayo alleging that Dr. Okafor obtained money from him by false pretence and two of his vehicles totalling N106.178 million. Read more here.

LG Autonomy: Despite S’Court’s ruling, many LG chairmen will still behave like this…, Says Shehu Sani

Shehu Sani, a former senator that represented Kaduna central has reacted to Supreme Court’s judgement granting fiscal autonomy to local government councils in Nigeria.

In a tweet via his official X account, Shehu Sani mocked some local government Chairman indirectly stating that some of the Local government chairmen would still be loyal to their governors to the extent of updating them when they get paid. Read more here.

Nigeria Governors Forum call for emergency meeting over LG Autonomy

Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has announced that the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) has scheduled an emergency meeting over Supreme Court’s recent decision granting autonomy to Local Government Councils in the country.

Topnaija.ng recalls that on Thursday, the supreme court ruled that it is unconstitutional for state governors to withhold funds designated for local government administrations. Read more here.
