EFCC arrests 55 suspected internet fraudsters

The Ilorin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday said it has arrested 55 suspected internet fraudsters in Offa, headquarters of the Offa local government area.

EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale in a statement in Ilorin, said the arrests were made at different locations in the town. Read more here.

Cross River declares public holidays for council elections

The Cross River Government has declared Thursday and Friday as public holidays to enable voters in the state to participate fully in the council’s elections scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 1.

The notice to this effect is contained in a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Nsa Gill, and made available to newsmen on Wednesday. Read more here.

Oshodi residents protest against estimated billing from Ikeja Electric

Residents of Oshodi, Mafoluku, Shogunle and Ewu-Tuntun communities staged a peaceful protest at the Ikeja Electric (IE) Okota business unit on Wednesday, demanding an end to estimated billing and the provision of prepaid meters.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the protesters, who carried placards with various inscriptions, expressed frustration over exorbitant bills despite frequent power outages. Read more here.

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, speaking on Wednesday at a thanksgiving service in Port Harcourt, addressed concerns over the Federal High Court’s recent order restricting the release of state allocations, saying it was “the least” of his worries.
