#EndBadGovernance: Is planned nationwide protest already yielding results?
The Federal Government announced on Monday that it has begun distributing an additional 10 trucks of 50kg of rice to each state, to be sold at designated centres for N40,000. This move addresses poverty and high living costs and halts planned nationwide protests.
Despite the impending August 1 nationwide protest, President Bola Tinubu has stated he is addressing the grievances of the youth, essentially “protesting on their behalf.” The Federal Executive Council (FEC) maintains that most demands from the protest organizers are already being addressed, thus negating the need for the protest. Niger, Abuja begins nationwide protest ahead of Schedule
Residents of Niger State have begun expressing their frustrations over rising costs of living and inflation in Nigeria, FIJ reports.

#EndBadGovernance protest: IGP issues fresh directives ahead of August 1
Ahead of the #EndBadGovernance protest schuled to begin August 1, Topnaija.ng reports that the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun has directed senior police officers to protect participants.
Egbetokun gave this directive in a letter to the request of human rights lawyer, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa. Read more here.
Nigeria’s 2024 budget performance hits record low
The Federal Government has disbursed only 24.5 percent of the total amount allocated for the 2024 fiscal year in the first half of the year, marking its lowest budget performance since 2020, according to an FIJ comparison.
As of June 2024, the Federal Government had paid only 24.5 percent of budgetary allocations to ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs), according to the Quarterly Budget Implementation Report on the Open Treasury Portal. Read more here.
