Mikel Arteta did what Sir Alex Ferguson will never do -- Chris Sutton

Even while at the top, you still can get beaten and battered by those below, it is something Liverpool has learnt in recent times and have continually learnt over the years, for a Mikel Arteta side, they got their own for share of the lesson as Arsenal crashed out unceremoniously from the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.

It was one of the games against a Brighton side that have began the season going after the big guys, taking out names while kicking the ball, and unfortunately, it was Arteta and his team’s side that got their names taken in the fixture.

The game very much began like one of those fixtures where Arsenal would race into the lead, and hold on until final whistle, but for some reason, Brighton learnt from Chelsea’s mistake in the weekend to come right back into the game and net in 3 clean goals away from home.

Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, acknowledged that his team “came up short” against Brighton in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.

After losing 3-1 at the Emirates, the Gunners were declared out of the competition.

Eddie Nketiah scored first, but Robert De Zerbi’s team rallied with goals from Kaoru Mitoma and Tariq Lamptey in the second half, as well as a penalty kick from Danny Welbeck to advance to the fourth round.

Arteta, whose team defeated Chelsea 1-0 after 10 changes, stated: “That’s the squad we have.

“We have to try and utilise it as well as possible. But today we came up short. We didn’t do what we needed to do in both boxes to win the match.

“We know where we are and we have injuries in a squad that is already short. We have to manage that in the best possible situation.”

Fair play to Arsenal, they played against 2 clubs in Brighton and Hove Albion to see themselves crash out in the early stages of the competition.
