  1. Workers under the umbrella of All Workers Convergence (AWC) on Monday issued a 21-day ultimatum to President Muhammadu Buhari to make pronouncement on the September date of new minimum wage. They threatened that failure to reassure workers within 21 days would lead to a nationwide strike.

  2. Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo’s party, the African Democratic Congress, ADC, has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for the change of the Democracy Day from May 29 to June 12. A statement by the party’s spokesperson, Mr Akin Osuntokun, applauded President Muhammadu Buhari’s decision to confer honours on Chief Moshood Abiola and Chief Gani Fawehinmi but criticized the recognition given to Mr. Babagana Kingibe.

  3. The Super Eagles have arrived in Russia ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
    The players and coaches landed in their Essentuki base late on Monday night at about 11pm Nigerian time. Their arrival time was affected by slight delays in their flight from Austria, where they had been training.

  4. Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Monday urged the Buhari government to erect a cenotaph in honour of Nigerians and foreigners alike who participated in the June 12 struggle for the late MKO Abiola. The NLC said that beyond declaring June 12 as a national holiday, the government should institutionalise the lessons learnt from the episode.

  5. The Super Falcons of Nigeria have qualified for the 2018 African Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON). They sealed the qualification, after an emphatic 6-0 victory over Gambia in their second leg clash, at the Agege Stadium on Monday. Desire Oparanozie scored four times, while Asisat Oshoala netted a brace for the eight-time African champions.

  6. President Muhammadu Buhari has returned to Abuja after a two-day official visit to Morocco where he was received and accorded `five-star’ Royal reception by the Moroccan leader, King Mohammed VI. The presidential aircraft conveying the President and some members of his entourage landed at the presidential wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, at about 5.15p.m.

  7. A Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered that court papers be served on the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, over the list of alleged looters he released. On Monday, Ferdinand Orbih, counsel to ex-minister, Nenadi Usman, informed the court that he had an exparte application. He said his application was seeking leave of the court, to serve a motion on notice, on Mr Mohammed over alleged acts of contempt. This was granted.

  8. The Commander of the Nigerian Army Engineering Corp, Maj. Gen. John Malu, on Monday narrowly escaped death after unknown armed men dressed in Military fatigue attacked him at his country home in Tse Adoor, Tiir Ward, Tongov in Katsina/Ala local government area of Benue State. It was gathered that Gen. Malu had gone home to visit his family over the weekend when the armed gang who rode on over 30 motorbikes stormed his residence at about 6am shooting sporadically. One person was, however, killed.

9. The two principal suspects Kabiru Seidu, 31, aka “Osama” and Nuhu Salihu, 25, aka “Small” who allegedly implicated Senator Dino Melaye in the alleged offences of criminal conspiracy, illegal possession of firearms and illegal arms dealing have denied committing the offences. The suspected criminals appeared before a Kogi Senior Magistrate Court, Lokoja on Monday along with embattled lawmaker from Kogi West, Senator Melaye. They declared that the allegations were false and they were not guilty when their pleas were taken.

  1. The Federal Government has declared Friday, 15th and Monday, 18th June as public holidays to celebrate this year’s Eid-el Fitr. This was confirmed by the Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau, on Monday, in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr M. B. Umar on Monday. He congratulated the Muslim faithful on a successful completion of the Ramadan.
