1. The death has been announced of a former chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC), Mustapha Akanbi.

Akanbi died Sunday morning in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital at the age of 86.

1. A faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State, Saturday, forcefully broke into the party’s secretariat.

The development heightened existing tension generated after the just concluded congresses of the party.

1. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Saturday declared the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Adebo Ogundoyin, as the winner of the by-election to fill the vacant seat of Ibarapa East State constituency in the Oyo State House of Assembly.

Ogundoyin scored 6,277 votes to defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Mr. Olukunle Adeyemo, a younger brother of the former speaker who scored 4619 votes and Accord Party candidate who came third in the election with 2,859 votes and four other contestants.

1. The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, John Oyegun, has noted that the party will experience difficult time ahead.

The politician therefore called for a less- contentious convention, adding that it would be better for the party.

1. The secretary of the National Convention Committee of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu, Saturday resigned from the position with immediate effect.

Uwajumogu said the decision to resign from the committee was taken for personal reasons and also to advance the progress of APC in Imo State.

1. Ghana’s High Commissioner in Nigeria, Mr. Rashid Bawa, has denounced ex-President Jonathan for misquoting President Nana Akuffo-Addo over security situation in Nigeria.

He said on Friday that Jonathan “took the words of President Akufo-Addo completely out of context” when he quoted the Ghanaian leader of mocking Nigeria.

The Chairman, Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption, Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), has asked the Senate to accept the criticism of a former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega, who recently described the National Assembly as deeply enmeshed in bribery.

Sagay said the Senate’s challenge to Jega to mention the names of lawmakers that had demanded bribes would bring more shame to the National Assembly.

1. Some internally displaced persons in Borno State have denied the Amnesty International report on alleged rape and human rights abuses against them by the military.

The IDPs from Marte, Monguno, Gwoza, Gwuzamala, Nganzai, Bama and Konduga denied the allegation, saying it was a fabrication.

1. Gunmen during the weekend attacked another village in Zamfara State, killing 15 people.

The Public Relations Officer of the Zamfara State Police Command, Mr. Muhammad Shehu, said the bandits killed the people in a village called Zakuna, located in Anka Local Government Area.
