“Too little, too late to apologize” — Roy Keane tells Fernandes
Manchester United legend Roy Keane isn’t shy of voicing out his opinion as he calls out club captain Bruno Fernandes.
The former United captain dismissed the Portugal international’s recent apology to former manager Erik ten Hag who was given the sack last week following West Ham’s defeat of Manchester United.
According to Roy Keane, Bruno Fernandes’ apology to Erik ten Hag was hollow and overdue.
Bruno Fernandes claimed he reached out to Ten Hag following the Dutchman’s dismissal, apologizing for his own struggles to find the net in recent games. Yet, Keane isn’t convinced, pulling no punches in a scathing reaction that questions Fernandes’ leadership as United’s captain.

Following United’s 2-1 defeat to West Ham that led to Ten Hag’s exit, Fernandes spoke to the media, taking some responsibility for his ex-manager’s fate. But to Keane, the apology was too little, too late.
“Bruno didn’t show that leadership,” Keane told Sky Sports, insisting Fernandes failed to step up during United’s toughest spells.
“I don’t think Bruno has done enough as captain over the last year or so to help the manager out,” he added, casting doubt on the sincerity of Fernandes’ regret.
Keane’s harsh assessment paints Fernandes’ gesture as insincere—a quick move to save face, rather than a genuine reflection of his impact on the club’s recent struggles.
With Manchester United now in the hands of interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy, Keane believes Fernandes’ focus should be on showing leadership on the pitch, not in press conferences.
The question lingers: will Fernandes rise to the captain’s challenge under new management, or has Keane’s cutting critique exposed a real gap in United’s leadership?
Roy Keane prior to his scathing critique on Bruno Fernandes, has been very vocal in his criticism of Fernandes’ leadership of the team.
