Tonto Dikeh makes Power move, decamps to APC

Tonto Dikeh knows the game of politics is one of numbers, and if she could not beat the high ranking powers, she has taken the bull by the horn to switch allegiance to the ruling powers.

It is called ‘bending the knee’, and the Nollywood actress turned politician has bent the knee to play the game.

Tonto Dikeh, has formally switched her political allegiance to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

This shift in her political alignment comes after her previous association with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), where she served as the deputy governorship candidate for Rivers State during the 2023 elections, as reported by Naija News.

According to The Nation, Dikeh’s decision to leave the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC) and join the ruling APC was influenced by the ADC’s defeat in the recent general election.

Despite this change, the popular Nollywood actress revealed in June that she remains committed to her political ambitions, with aspirations to become the governor of the state in the future.

Dikeh expressed her determination by saying,

“One of the things I learned (from contesting the election) is resilience and never giving up. I know after four years, they will forget about me and think, ‘she is not going to come back.’

“But I am going to come back. Every four years, I am going to come back. I will come back, and I will be in their faces. I will be returning to the political arena.”

She also acknowledged the challenges of the political landscape, stating,

“My chances (of becoming governor) are high and slim because politics is dirty. It’s not going to be free and fair. (Nyesom) Wike’s candidate didn’t win free and fair.

“So I don’t expect politics to be free and fair, but I expect that, as someone said, having a lion’s heart requires taking the lion’s share. I won’t care what they think about my position; I will keep having the lion’s share.

“Whether it is my personal life or politics, I am here to stay, and they have no choice but to accept it.”

At the end of the day, it is all about personal interests in Nigeria’s political scenery.
