Todd Boehly’s latest move to make Chelsea fans angry

Reports have surfaced indicating that Chelsea Football Club is considering a hike in ticket prices for the upcoming 2024/25 season.
Since American businessman Todd Boehly assumed control at Stamford Bridge from Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich last year, Chelsea has emerged as one of the significant spenders in the Premier League.
Investments exceeding £1 billion under Boehly’s ownership have seen notable acquisitions such as Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez, Nicolas Jackson, Marc Cucurella, and Raheem Sterling.
Despite the substantial investment in new talent, Chelsea’s on-field performance has been disappointing. Previous seasons saw managerial shifts with Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter, and Frank Lampard attempting to steer the club back to glory, but all faced challenges.
The recent appointment of Mauricio Pochettino has also not yielded the desired results, with Chelsea presently occupying the 10th position in the Premier League, having amassed only 25 points from their initial 19 matches.
The team finds itself 12 points adrift from the top four and 17 points behind league leaders Liverpool.
Amid this, reports have emerged indicating a potential ticket price increase for the 2024/25 season. Discussions between elected fans and club officials in recent meetings have hinted at the likelihood of higher ticket costs, although no final decisions have been confirmed.
The Standard reports that the operational expenses of managing the club’s stadium have surged by 31% since 2018 due to inflation, potentially necessitating a recalibration in ticket pricing to cope with rising costs.
Mauricio Pochettino, speaking ahead of Chelsea‘s Premier League match against Luton Town, expressed sentiments about Stamford Bridge, saying,
“I’m an old man, I am romantic. I love football of the past, and this kind of stadium makes you remember when I started to play.”
He further added,
“It’s a stadium that smells different. It’s not luxury in the way that we recognize luxury today. This type of stadium is one where you love to be there. It’s history, it’s completely different.”
