"Tinubu insensitive and detached" — PDP

In a fiery response to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s media chat on Monday, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the President of showing a glaring lack of empathy for the crushing economic hardship Nigerians face.

The PDP’s spokesman, Debo Ologunagba, minced no words in condemning Tinubu’s assertion that he has “no regrets” over the abrupt removal of the petrol subsidy—a move critics argue has plunged millions into poverty.

According to Ologunagba, Tinubu’s remarks reveal an administration disconnected from the realities on the ground, where inflation soars at 34.6%, the naira continues to nosedive, and citizens are left grappling with a failing economy.

“It’s alarming that the President openly admits that Nigerians are suffering due to his administration’s failure to secure the nation’s borders and curb smuggling, yet shows no remorse for the catastrophic consequences of his policy decisions,” Ologunagba said.

The PDP accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of failing to account for the savings from subsidy removal while neglecting to implement meaningful cushioning measures. Instead of offering solutions, Tinubu’s administration has allegedly leaned on dubious claims that the economy has improved—a claim the opposition vehemently disputes.

“Stampedes during palliative distributions are a testament to the dire straits Nigerians are in,”

Ologunagba noted, calling on Tinubu to leave the comfort of Aso Rock and travel the Abuja-Lagos road or visit local markets to experience the harsh realities firsthand.

Adding to the critique, the PDP spotlighted the deteriorating state of the nation’s productive sector, lack of investments in agriculture, electricity, and SMEs, and the insecurity that continues to plague highways, despite Tinubu’s reassurances of safe travel.

The opposition party’s challenge to the President is simple yet cutting: walk in the shoes of ordinary Nigerians to truly understand the magnitude of their suffering.

With citizens now questioning not just the policies but the very priorities of the APC government, the PDP’s warning is stark—under the current administration, there is no light at the end of the tunnel.
