Tinubu given 7-day ultimatum to resign

The United Action Front of Civil Society has issued a stern ultimatum of seven days to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, demanding both an apology to the Nigerian public and his immediate resignation.

This ultimatum comes in the wake of allegations regarding the forgery and perjury related to Tinubu’s academic records from the Chicago State University (CSU).

The civil society group, in a statement released on Friday, voiced their outrage and embarrassment over the alleged misconduct, stating that the situation has brought disgrace to all Nigerians.

Hamisu Santuraki, the spokesperson for the Civil Society Organization (CSO), made the demands on behalf of the group.

The group asserted that the recent revelation from CSU has added weight to longstanding speculations regarding President Tinubu’s identity.

They pointed out that during Tinubu’s tenure as the governor of Lagos State, there were already questions surrounding his academic background, and he faced accusations of falsely claiming to have attended Aroloya Primary School in Lagos, Government College in Ibadan, and the University of Chicago for a Master’s degree in Economics in a sworn affidavit submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in 1999.

The Civil Society Group argued that the use of immunity associated with the office of state governors under the Nigerian constitution, coupled with divisive media manipulation, shielded Tinubu from resigning in the face of these allegations.

They compared his situation to past instances where Senate President Evans Enwerem and Speaker of the House of Representatives Salisu Buhari were forced to step down due to allegations of identity theft and false claims regarding their educational backgrounds.

The group condemned President Tinubu’s alleged forgery of a diploma certificate from CSU, which he reportedly submitted to INEC for the 2023 presidential elections, as a brazen act of criminality and perjury.

According to the group, Tinubu’s actions blatantly violated Chapter 6, Part 1, Section 137 (J) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

As such, they have given him a seven-day ultimatum to issue an apology to all Nigerians and resign from the presidency.

Failure to comply with these demands, they insisted, would lead to a call for the National Assembly to initiate impeachment proceedings against him.

The United Action Front of Civil Society concluded by stressing the need to uphold the dignity of the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, ensuring it is occupied only by individuals with unblemished moral records in accordance with the spirit and letter of Chapter 6 of the 1999 Constitution as amended.
