Tinubu visits Europe for work
On Wednesday afternoon, the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, departed Nigeria for Europe with the aim of refining his transition plans and programmes, as well as policy options with his key aides.
The decision was made to avoid unnecessary pressures and distractions during this crucial stage of preparation for his presidency. A statement from his media aide, Tunde Rahman, indicated that during his stay in Europe, Tinubu plans to engage with investors and other key allies to promote investment opportunities in Nigeria.
The statement revealed that meetings with multi-sectoral actors in Europe’s business community had been scheduled, with a particular focus on manufacturing, agriculture, technology, and energy. The President-elect hopes to convince these business leaders of Nigeria’s readiness to engage in mutually beneficial partnerships that will create jobs and foster skills acquisition.
Reviving Nigeria’s economy is a cornerstone of Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, and this visit is an integral part of his efforts to re-establish the country’s importance in the global economic chain and create empowering opportunities for the vast youth population. The statement further emphasized Tinubu’s commitment to hit the ground running, stating that he has already begun discussions with global actors in critical areas of the economy and security.
Before embarking on the trip, Tinubu met with Tajudeen Abbas and Benjamin Kalu, the All Progressives Congress-endorsed candidates for Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, respectively. He is expected to return to Nigeria just before his official swearing-in ceremony on May 29th, when he will become Nigeria’s 16th President.
