Tinubu, Akande storm Ondo for Governor Akeredolu’s rally [PHOTOS]

Earlier today, All Progressives Congress chieftains including former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; and former Osun State Governor, Chief Bisi Akande, arrived in Akure, the Ondo State capital, for the flag-off rally of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu re-election campaign.

 

Akeredolu is seeking a return to office on the platform of the ruling APC in the election scheduled to hold on October 10, 2020.

He has his deputy, Agboola Ajayi of the Zenith Labour Party; and Eyitayo Jegede of the Peoples Democratic Party as his main challengers in the election. President Muhammadu Buhari had predicted an “easier clear victory” for Akeredolu.

Buhari had also presented the party’s flag to Akeredolu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

According to @OndoAPC on Twitter, Tinubu and Akande, who is APC ex-Interim National Chairman, alongside other party members, were received at the Akure Airport by the state governor on Saturday.

On Sunday, 27 November 2016, Akeredolu was announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission as the winner of the Ondo State Governorship Election.

He amassed 244, 842 votes in the election while Mr. Jegede with 150, 380 votes and Mr. Oke with 126, 889 votes . According to Prof. Ganiyu Ambali, INEC Returning Officer, Akeredolu defeated two major opponents, Eyitayo Jegede of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Olusola Oke of the Alliance for Democracy (AD), to clinch victory. He was sworn in as the governor of Ondo State on 24 February 2017 in Akure, the Ondo State Capital.

He won the battle to re-contest for the Ondo State 2020 governorship election after beating Olusola Oke, DI Kekemeke, Jimi Odimayo, Segun Abraham and few others in the APC Primary election.
